MELANIN MEDICINE NETWORK MEMBER SPOTLIGHTS

Meet Haja Fofana, our Network member being spotlighted for the month of July! Below are a couple of her responses to our Q&A. If you'd like to learn more about Haja and other Black health and healing professionals, consider joining the network today! DM us for more details.

*When did you join?* - I joined MelanIN Medicine in 2020.

*What is your health/healing profession?* - "I am a pediatric medical-surgical float nurse at Boston Children’s Hospital. I also recently graduated from Regis College with a Family Nurse Practitioner degree, so I am hoping to work when I pass my boards."

Meet Shanice Pullen, Social Worker:

*When did you join?* - “I joined MelanIN Medicine in 2020 during the pandemic.”

*What is your health/healing profession?* - “I'm a school social worker and individual outpatient therapist.”

Meet September’s Network Spotlight Member, Carolyn Jordan, who has joined the MelanIN Medicine family in 2019! Carolyn is a first generation Bajan, born and raised in Cambridge, Massachusetts, who has always had a passion for caring for others. She turned her passion into action and is now a Primary Care Provider at Cambridge Health Alliance, Broadway Health center in Somerville.

But wait, there’s more! Carolyn is also an Adjunct Professor of Nursing at Simmons University FNP Graduate Program and a Mentor for the Dotson Bridge and Mentoring Program at Simmons University.

“I joined MelanIN Medicine because it’s such an amazing organization that supports and promotes a network for people who are bringing such greatness to this medical community and beyond. All of the gatherings I have attended thus far have been wonderful!”

Meet September’s feature and Boston native - Fhynita Brinson, who officially joined the MelanIN member network in 2021, after attending one of our networking mixers! Fhynita is a licensed social worker, who has experience many facets within the field such as residential, child protection, homelessness, hospital, elder services, and education.

“My passion lies in uplifting our people. I'm not talking about having started an official organization or small business. I'm more so referring to something a little more grassroots or whatever comes before something is considered to be grassroots. I prayed that God's light would shine through me. After a very long wait, my prayer had been answered - I became more sensitive to embracing the culture. It is not uncommon for me to offer a compliment to sista in passing, rocking a fly bright blue short cut. Neither would I hesitate to compliment a small coco skinned child on their beautiful bright almond shaped eyes or their afro puffs.”

Meet September’s feature and Boston native – Jasmine Welcome, LICSW, who officially joined the MelanIN member network in 2023. Jasmine became part of the MelanIN family to collaborate with other professionals of color within the health industry!

Jasmine is the founder of Roots Unraveled, LLC, a clinical social worker, therapist and creator of The Self-Care Planner. She has over 7 years of experience in the mental health field. Jasmine's career started as a Girl Scout troop leader for the FaB Factor program and pivoted to therapeutic mentoring, in-home family therapy, hospital social work and now private practice! Jasmine makes it her mission to intentionally intersect mental health, civic engagement and social equity as sources of empowerment and healing.

Not only is Jasmine a licensed social worker, she is also a professional dancer, and currently practices contemporary ballet for The UGANI: The Extension Project!
